A little bit of theory and lots of action in the workshop with Dianne Peach. We’ll design a unique glaze from a selection of flux ingredients; line blend a couple of interesting materials, like wood ash and rock powder. We’ll mix a glaze from a recipe and understand common variables for colour and texture. These test tiles will be rapidly fired so results are available to discuss. A more complex analysis of ingredients, and what they do, will be revealed through using Ian Currie’s Grid Method to understand and refine a given glaze recipe. Online resources will be reviewed for further technical and practical assistance.
