Introduction to Silversmithing: Sand Casting

In this workshop with Renata Fojtikova, you will discover how to create silver signet rings using wax and Delft clay (sand) casting techniques. You’ll be guided through preparing metal for pouring and using oxy torches to melt precious metals safely and effectively. Stone-in-place casting and flush setting techniques will also be explored. By the end of the workshop, you will have created your own original signet ring, complete with a sparkling gemstone. Suitable for all skill levels, this workshop is ideal for anyone interested in learning how to recycle old or broken jewellery into new wearable pieces. Participants who would like to reuse their own silver or gold jewellery are encouraged to bring it along.
