Gas Firing: Low, Medium and High

Friday afternoons | 1:00 – 4:00pm | commencing 9 October | 9 weeks
Total: $ 655.00
Description

Gas offers an easier-than-wood way to do reduction-firing across the full range of temperatures. It is as safe as electricity but with simpler kilns made from fibre and/or brick. In this course with Dianne Peach, students will become familiar with how kilns work, and learn their design parameters through hands-on building. A variety of kilns will be available for students to pack and fire the group’s work to bisque, raku, midfire, and highfire, glazed appropriately with in-house glazes. Saggar firing and wet firing will be included. Firing with gas using a portable burner enables flexibility in both kiln design and placement. This simplicity enables building and dismantling as space and frequency dictates.
